Italian Sounding Phenomenon

The gastronomic culture of Italy and its agri-food produce are famous and appreciated by consumers all over the world. As a result of this popularity, a parallel economy has grown up over the years. This phenomenon is known as “Italian Sounding,” in other words, the use of geographical names, images, and trademarks that evoke Italy to promote and market products that cannot be attributed to Italy at all. In fact, these imitations have no connection to the Italian originals, they don’t have the same excellence, and they have no link to Italy’s traditions and culture. Two products out of three sold around the world are FAKE ITALIAN, and most foreign consumers buy fake or imitated Italian products unknowingly.

Spaghetti aglio, olio e peperoncino

Every Italian is capable to make this very simple and at the same time delicious dish. It consists just on a combination of four ingredients: spaghetti, aglio (garlic), olio (oil), and peperoncino (chili pepper) which can be five if you choose to include prezzemolo (parsley) and six or seven if you count the salt and the unmissable ingredient of Italian cuisine “il parmigiano”. College students especially love this dish because it is cheap, easy and fast to prepare, and really rewarding. A lot of Italian young people, returning late home, are used to do what is called “la spaghettata di mezzanotte”, the classic midnight aglio, olio and peperoncino spaghetti. Instead of that squishy slice of late-night pizza, a simple meal prepared and shared with friends would be the answer to so many of our solitary woes with their phone in one hand, and something just edible in the other hand. A way to spend quality time together nourishing your mind, body, and spirit.

ACE

Until a few decades ago, detergent and soap campaigns have produced memorable slogans, images, and characters that have remained rooted in the collective imagination of Italians. Like the famous “Smacchia a fondo senza ssstrapp!”2Watch it (It removes stains without rrrrippppp up) pronounced by a cute grandmother. Although with less creativity, even nowadays, they continue to occupy a large slice of the advertising space. After all, Italians are still the same cleaning maniacs.
