| Ferrero Ferrero Group is an Italian manufacturer of branded chocolate and confectionery products. It was founded in 1946 in Alba, Piedmont, Italy, by Pietro Ferrero. The Ferrero Group is now present in 55 countries, and Ferrero products are present and sold, directly or through authorized retailers, in more than 170 countries belonging to the entire international community. Ferrero produces several lines of confectionery goods under various brand names, as well as the worldwide famous chocolate-hazelnut spread. In fact, during the 1950’s the Second World War and the consequent poverty had left chocolate in short supply in Italy. So Pietro Ferrero came up with the idea of adding hazelnuts, which were cheaper and more readily available in Piedmont than cocoa, to save money on chocolate. Piedmont is home to the world’s best hazelnuts, but since the production of Nutella uses one-quarter of the world’s annual hazelnut supply nowadays, you will hardly find the ‘nocciola del Piemonte’ (hazelnut from Piedmont) in your jar.
